LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR “BIG GOAL”, “SMALL GOAL”, AND “#1 DREAM CAREER”

Congratulations on completing the last unit and picking your “Big Goal”, “Small Goal”,  and #1 Dream Career!!

Before you embark on your “Big Goal”, “Small Goal” or career you need to have knowledge. The Internet is a great source to gain knowledge but sometimes it is not enough.

Many of you will wish to speak with experts that are currently working in your chosen “Big Goal” “Small Goal” and “#1 Dream Career”

Exercise A: Speak with at least 3 people working in both your “#1 Big Goal” and “#1 Small Goal”

Exercise B: Speak with at least 3 people working in your #1 Dream Career contained within your “#1 Big Goal” and “#1 Small Goal”

If you are considering more than one big/small goal this is your opportunity to speak with people working in these varying goals.  This could be the case if you ranked several goals as having similar importance to you.

If you are considering more than one career this is your opportunity to speak with people working in different careers.  This could be the case if your “#1 Dream Career” ranked very close to your second career choice.

Many of you do not have current contacts working in your big/small goal or chosen career. You need to set up “informational meetings”with these contacts. Below is an explanation I wrote on how to set up informational meetings with these contacts.

Question To Ask Yourself Before Setting Up Informational Meetings With Contacts Working In A Specific Career:

1) Do organizations/companies that look to solve your big and small goal have a real need for the skills you will develop by working in this specific career?

For example, let’s say this was your #1 Big Goal and #1 Small Goal

#1 Big Goal: Civil Liberty For All World citizens

#1 Small Goal: Helping individuals fleeing persecution from a foreign individual or government and seeking refuge in the U.S. or another safe haven

Helping people immigrate to a foreign country often involves navigating the legal system. Going to law school and specializing in immigration law would develop the skills needed by organizations working within this “small goal”

An immigration lawyer could be a very good fit and have the skills necessary to help solve this “small goal”

Conversely, pursuing a degree in electrical engineering has no relevance in the world of immigration reform. Immigration reform has no need for electrical engineers.

2) Are there plentiful job openings for this career within organizations/companies that that look to solve your big and small goal?

A) Your contact will have some thoughts on questions above.

B) The link below will also provide some insight on job openings in a specific field

Explore Careers

Go to link above.  You can search for occupations by state. Open up full occupation profile. You will see a tab marked “employment trends”. Also on left sidebar will see a few tabs labeled “fastest growing”, “declining employment”, “largest employment”, “highest paying”, etc..

C) Indeed.com is the largest career search engine in the world. Do a simple search and you can pull some data

IMPORTANT- YOU BOUGHT THIS COURSE TO QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY CHOOSE A CAREER PATH.  YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SET UP AT LEAST ONE INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEW PER DAY.  YOU HAVE MOMENTUM. DO NOT LOSE IT. IT IS NOT THE TIME TO SCREW AROUND!!

TAKE NO MORE THAN 10 DAYS TO SPEAK WITH 3 PEOPLE IN YOUR “#1 BIG GOAL”, “#1 SMALL GOAL”, and “#1 DREAM CAREER”

These informational meetings may/may not provide information that will cause you to change your “#1 Big Goal”, “#1 Small Goal”, or “#1 Dream Career”.

For example, an informational meeting contact may say that in 5 years your “#1 Dream Career” will become obsolete.

Have no fear if something like this happens.  You have created a large list of big goals, small goals, and dream careers.  Just move on to the second ranked goal or career option.

DO YOU HAVE A FIRM “#1 BIG GOAL”, “#1 SMALL GOAL”. AND “#1 DREAM CAREER”?

The answer to this question has to be a “Yes”. If for whatever reason you answered “No” to the above question, just simply go back to the previous unit- “Pick Your #1 Dream Career” You run through this unit/algorithm again making edits to the varying career, “big goal”, and “small goal” factors based on new data collected at your informational meetings.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR “#1 BIG GOAL”, “#1 SMALL GOAL”, AND “#1 DREAM CAREER”!!
