If you have ever found yourself wondering “what will I be when I grow up?”, you should know that you are not the only person to be stuck with this question. So much depends on our decisions surrounding our careers that finding the right one can be a confusing and difficult choice to make. This is why taking the what will I be when I grow up quiz can point you in the right direction to assist you in making the right choice for yourself. Here are 12 things relating to your future job that can be clarified by taking the quiz.

What is a career?

A career is not simply a job. A career is very much like a lifestyle choice. It contains implied expectations and plans for the future. This can sometimes make deciding on one difficult, because being an archaeological scholar may sound amazing, but if you aren’t willing to dig in the dirt first, you may not reach your ultimate goal. Knowing each step of the road ahead and being aware of where it might fork or change direction is part of career planning and a vital consideration to make when deciding where you are going and how you plan on getting there.

And how do I build a career?

Looking to the future isn’t second nature to everyone. Life is sometimes too messy and unpredictable. But one area that needs forethought, planning and consideration is your career. The reason for its importance is the ability to be mentally prepared for that future and to systematically work towards it. First, before you can start working on it, you need to lay a solid foundation by knowing what you want to be when you grow up. Once this has been determined, the rest of your plans will fall into place.

Taking The “What Will I Be When I Grow Up Quiz”

At some point, everyone asks themselves what they want out of their life and their career. Your future is important, and this is an important decision to make and worrying about it, though natural and normal, is not necessary. Luckily, there exists outside help to assist you in your decision making. The what will I be when I grow up quiz guides you through possibilities specifically suited to you and your personality to match you up with the right career path, granting you worry-free insight into the best choices to make and which career to pursue.

Eliminate the stress of starting from scratch

If you don’t yet know what to be when you grow up, finding an answer when you don’t know where to begin looking can be intimidating. Even if you do have some rough ideas, some additional guidance may still be needed. When you come to a point where you have to decide, don’t become stressed out about it. The answers will reveal themselves if you know where to look. Without ever having given too much thought about what career you want or being in the dark about the options open to you, having a starting point such as this quiz will help steer you towards recognizing what the right fit is for you.

Be decisive when answering the question what will I be when I grow up

Not everyone is born knowing what they want from life. Some people only really figure it out when they are in their thirties or forties, others never do. Flipping between different career ideas can give you experience and help build knowledge, but who wants to start over every time they realize their current career isn’t suitable for them anymore? This doesn’t mean that you need to pick something and stick to it for the rest of your life but having a better idea of what WILL work and make you happy eliminates a lot of wasted effort.

Quality of life

All work and no play. We all know how the saying goes. Many people get caught up in their work or are forced to work long and difficult hours, while their personal lives suffers as a result. This is no way to live, and any career should give you the freedom to have a life outside of normal working hours. As Forbes states in their article about how to know if your job works for you, you should never be “crunched for time or money, and you no longer have limiting beliefs that put a cap on how good your life can become.” After all, you shouldn’t live to work, but rather work to live, while still enjoying the experience.

Be specific

Knowing that you want to do something in “sales” for example is a good starting point, but the devil is often in the detail. Is the right position for you as a retail salesperson, a telemarketer, or even a sales consultant? And in what industry? With so many finer options to choose from, it can sometimes become frustrating. Taking a career quiz can give you deeper insight into what specifics or specializations will sit well with you as an individual.

Do some soul searching

Asking yourself what will you be when you grow up is a very personal question to answer. Huffington Post suggests that you make a list of all the things you like about your job. This can be done before making your decision by listing your expectations into what you would enjoy. When you cross-examine your findings with the results of the quiz, you may be surprised by the similarities.

Make your own career choices

When you were younger, you may have been told to get a certain job by your parents, or you may have been told that becoming a doctor/lawyer/teacher is important to your family name and legacy. But just because your father, and your father’s father, and your father’s father’s father did a specific job for a living, it doesn’t mean that the same job is your predetermined fate. Don’t allow external pressure make your decisions for you. Instead, decide to forge your own path and discover the world for yourself.

Don’t end up in a boring, dead-end job

If you are under stimulated and feel that there is nothing more to achieve, no higher for you to climb, both your personal life and your work life will suffer because of it. Having good future prospects and something to strive towards, however, will ensure your own ongoing happiness. Feelings of self-realization and personal value are what will drive you to achieve your goals, giving you even more confidence and joy, and push you ever upward and onward. If from the get-go you feel that there is a limit to what you can achieve and what benefits you will have, this upward spiraling scenario is unlikely to occur. The best is to find a job which from the very start that inspires you.

Find something you love

Once you’ve got answers to some of the smaller questions about yourself in your quest to answer the bigger question of “what will you be when you grow up?”, you will find that these answers relate to things that you love. Why is it important to find a job you love? According to worklifebalance.com, loving your job “is very valuable to your life in many ways, including greatly increasing your probability of financial success.” As mentioned before, drive and achievement are definitively linked to happiness. This being said, if you hate mathematics and find a job as an actuary, no amount of achievement or money will make you truly love your job. If you dislike answering to some faceless corporation with questionable morals, working as your own boss for a company you started, and promoting your own sense of business ethics will mean much more to you.

Anything you love can be made into a career if you are daring and creative enough, from baking cakes to building bridges (in both the literal and figurative sense).

Be aware of your options

Yes, you can be anything you want to be when you grow up. Having some insight into what is required and what the current trends and changes in job demand are can be helpful, though. Not many marine biologists are working in Iran or game rangers in Britain these days, are there? Luckily, there is always the option of adapting to your specific geographic environment, or simply getting up and moving. Rely on your own strengths, experiences and knowledge to land your dream job once you’ve decided what that dream job is. You should never feel limited by anything once you come to a realization of what you want to do with your life.
