YOUR CAREER GUIDE
Before you spent your hard earned $ on my eCourse I am sure you searched the Internet long and hard for help in planning your career. Unfortunately there is very little out there that is relevant, useful, and most importantly backed by empirical research.
A non-profit organization called 80,000 hours is unique in the world of career planning. It was started out of Oxford University and its founders have a strong base in analyzing and conducting career related research studies.
Benjamin Todd is the founder of 80,000 Hours and is a colleague of mine. He is truly one of the thought leaders in modern day career planning.
The 80,000 hours website discusses many of the themes that are further discussed in Cal Newport’s 2012 groundbreaking book “So Good They Can’t Ignore You: Why Skills Trump Passion in the Quest for Work You Love “
The 80,000 hours website has a fantastic 9 part video series on the process of picking the career of your dreams. This 80,000 video series is a good jumping off point/prologue for my eCourse. In later units I may refer back to the themes contained in this video series.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE WATCHING THIS VIDEO SERIES
1. Benjamin Todd looks young. Real young. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Career research needs young, bright academics with cutting edge ideas. Ben is one of them. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone when he was 18…
2.Ben’s main target audience are well educated 20 something’s that are potentially thinking of master/doctoral level degrees. Don’t worry if you fall outside of this target audience. My specific eCourse is designed for people of all ages and career levels- university students to mid/late career changers. Many of my private career coaching clients are mid/late career changers . The basic themes he discusses are relevant to all. In future modules you will create a career plan based on your unique situation.
Career Guide- 9 Part Series
Below is the 80000 hours 9 part career guide video series. This unit is the longest of all units in my eCourse just because the volume of video you are to watch. I have allowed 1 day for you to complete this series. Do your best to watch it in one day.
*The content of the video and the content contained on the web page link is basically the same. It is up to you if you want to watch video, read content, or both
